We've had some crappy weather for Memorial Day weekend. Lots of rain today, so I didn't feel bad at all for spending time in my craft room working on a card for this week's Freshly Made Sketches challenge.

Here is my take on the sketch:

One downfall of rainy weather (pun intended), is poor natural lighting for picture taking. A flash and Photoshop will only get you so far.

It's been a long week. My husband was out of town all week for work, and each day was super busy. I felt like I was chauffeuring the kids everywhere. I was so tired that I was in bed by 9pm on Friday! It's funny to think there was a time that 9pm was when Friday night was just starting for me. 

I struggled with trying to come up with something for this week's Freshly Made Sketches challenge.

I had an incredibly busy weekend.  We bought my oldest daughter loft bed, so most of my weekend was spent moving her belongings out of her room and then putting them all back. She also had her 9th birthday party this weekend, and my husband had an emergency trip for work, so I was on my own for most of it. I thought I'd break up my cleaning a bit for a little card making, so I whipped up a card for this week's Freshly Made Sketches challenge. I got the card done easily enough, but when my computer turned on, it said windows wouldn't load properly. It gave me a few options on what to do. The best option seemed to be to refresh it. Unfortunately, that meant I had to reload all my programs. Made me want to tear my hair out. So after a couple hours trying to get everything back the way I had it, I can finally get my post done.

We are anticipating up to 6 inches of snow here in Minnesota. Thought it would be a good idea to stay inside and stamp. So far, it doesn't look like we'll get that much snow, but it's never fun to see this late in March. I am so excited for the warm up we are supposed to be getting in Minnesota this week. They are predicting 50's and even a possible 60 degrees over the next week. I am so ready for spring! I am tired of boots and winter jackets. I often question why I live in Minnesota, but the other 3 seasons do make it worth it. Freshly Made Sketches #167- a sketch by Narelle

It's been awhile since I've made any cards. December was a blur. My husband and I surprised our daughters with a trip to Florida. They were in complete shock. I don't think they actually believed us until they were on the plane.

We hit Disney and Universal Studios. It was a really fun 7 days, but exhausting. Luckily, I did a lot of Christmas prep before the trip because I was really worn out when I got back. I love the holiday season, but am always glad when they are over. Even though winter is technically just starting, but after the holidays are done, I feel like spring is on the way. The stores already have spring things on display. Target had swimsuits out! I am super excited about the new Stampin' Up! occasions catalog. It is fabulous, and the cover just screams spring.  The designer series papers are gorgeous too. I used some of the new paper on my card for this week's Freshly Made Sketches challenge.

I forgot how hard it is to photograph gold embossing. I may have went another way, if I had remembered. I had to take about 12 pictures before I got the lighting right.

As Thanksgiving approaches, I was thinking about the things I am thankful for. I am thankful my daughters are healthy and happy (when they aren't irritating the heck out of each other). I am thankful my husband is often the calm to my storm, and he works so hard to provide a good life for his family. I am thankful my parents are still alive and moved closer to us when they retired instead of heading south like most sane people would do.  I am super thankful my mom is doing Thanksgiving. Less stress for me this week. I am thankful for the good friends I have. I am thankful I get to take some time to be creative each week. I think that my daughters will carry that on. Both of them love to create and do art projects. I am jealous that both of them are able to draw well. My stick figures just don't compare, so I am also thankful for all of the great stamps Stampin' up! makes, so I don't have to actually draw. 

I am thankful that Freshly Made Sketches has such great sketches each week!  This week's challenge is no exception.

I had to do some traveling for work recently. I can't complain too much though, as I got to go to Florida. Since we are having really unseasonably cold weather in Minnesota, it was a nice trip to take. The chalkboard technique is really popular right now and super easy to do. Start with Whisper White card base. Add a strip of Designer Series Paper and ribbon to card. To create the chalkboard look, stamp an image on Basic Black cardstock using Versamark ink. Emboss with White Stampin' Emboss powder. Sponge white craft ink over embossed image to create smudged look. Use ruler and white Signo gel pen to create borders. Adhere Basic Black cardstock to Crumb Cake cardstock and adhere both to card using dimensionals.
